Clough Center Delegation to Bogot谩, Colombia

In the Spring of 2025, the Clough Center for the Study of Constitutional Democracy traveled on a weeklong fact-finding mission to Bogot谩 to examine the resilience of Colombian democracy ten years after the 2016 peace accords. Our delegation's meetings at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana focused on our theme of "Democratic Resilience" for the academic year: the capacity of democratic institutions and peoples to adapt and improve in the aftermath of shocks to their constitutional systems. In Colombia, decades of violence and disruption 鈥� massacres, kidnappings, disappearances, and displacement 鈥� were deeply traumatic, and yet the warring parties reverted to democratic institutions. Our visit was a unique opportunity to engage directly with the country's ongoing processes of peacebuilding and institutional reform, right in the middle of Colombia's election cycle.
